about

This is Quiet Surrender, Volume 1.

Quiet Surrender is a collection of drone based ambient songs purely intended to accompany moments of calm and stillness. Whether that be sleeping, prayer, meditation, study or my personal favourite: laying in a field staring at the stars thinking about what the hell you’re gonna do with your life.

These songs make no sweeping gestures or affirmations of emotions. They’re sole intention is that they bring you some kind of peace. That you may drift off to them in your ears and forget the wildfire that is the state of the world. The full, original title of this series was “Quiet Surrender or How to Fall Asleep When The World Is On Fire” so that description seems fitting.

I have big and wild plans for The Stolen Orchestra and to be frank, they only get more outlandish every day. This series is a way to keep myself grounded and return to where I began. To reignite and revisit my love for drone and minimalism when everything else I’m doing is chaos.

I hope it in some way will serve the same for you. And that it can be a constant place of rest and comfort for you.

All silence is intentional.

Love.
Matty

-----------------

This EP was written and recorded on Aboriginal land that was stolen by white colonisers. No treaty was ever signed nor was sovereignty ever ceded by the First Nations people who call Australia home. I pay my respects to the elders past, present and emerging and hope we can share in the beauty of this land yet not be blind to the injustice that happened and continue to happens today and that we work towards meaningful reconciliation.
